i'm alive!!!

here it is folks. my own website just for me. feels weird having a whole site about YOURSELF but it's good for work. showcases a lot of what i've done and still represents the 'I Heart' lifestyle online. my boy JON SANTOS over at COMMONSPACE designed it for me and he did an amazing job!!!! jon designed all of my branding and graphics for I Heart (including the logo) so who else could i get to do my personal website.

here are a few pic clips of the site for you to see but check it out for yourself!!

old+new+borrowed+blue

i swear to god, i can't tell what's new and what's old anymore. everything new sounds old. and not that there's anything wrong with that. i'm down with the past. shit was solid. lot of things suck now.

this week on viva i put a few little ditties on the list from some newbies. first up and most into is The Mantles. i don't know where this came from on my itunes but it popped up one day and i really like it. thought it was old. then to my dismay it's new. sf is up on this sound lately. anyways check it out

another good one is Double Dagger from baltimore. they sound like no age. but they've been around since 2002. chicken and egg question here. but this lie/truth song is pretty sweet. it's off their new LP.

last but not least we have The Drums. cute lil boys. this pic looks straight Outsiders. back to the "old" part of this post. it's a fun song tho, i'm into it.

as much as i'm into this going back to your roots music (and my own band does the same so i can't judge) but i wonder where that line is where yes it sounds good but it's not original. there's a difference between straight up copying and having bands inspire your own sound. we'll see how long this trend lasts. not hating, just questioning. as long as they do it right i don't mind!

ok here's the playlist.....

Love as Laughter - Konny and Jim
Smog - Hit the Ground Running
The Clientele - (I Can't Seem To) Make You Mine
Elizabeth Harper - Rock Like a Baby
The Smiths - Oscillate Wildly
George Harrison - I'd Have You Anytime
Beat Happening - Crashing Through
Orange Juice - Poor Old Soul (Part One)
The Drums - Let's Go Surfing
No Age - Semi-Sorted
Double Dagger - The Lie/The Truth
Roger & the Tempests - Bad Bad Way
Misfits - AngelFuck
The Mangles - Don't Lie
The Jazz Butcher - Lot 49
Bauhaus - Third Uncle
New Order - Dreams Never End

weekend warrior

lots to do this past weekend. show, drink, show, drink, superbowl, eat, drink. first up....muslims show at cakeshop. seeing as i just can't say soft pack, i'm going to keep calling them the muslims. sorry guys. show was crazy packed (duhhhh) but as usual totally awesome.

then on saturday i went to the Terrible Records showcase at glasslands. missed a few bands but got there in time to see Morning Benders (which were really really great) and finally Class Actress. Been wantin to see my pal Elizabeth up on stage so that was good. she put on a show like i knew she would. only elizabeth would hold her huge purse on stage while doing soundcheck.

finally ended the weekend with superbowl viewing at my house. was rootin for the saints only cuz i had 3 alabama natives in the house and that's what they told me to do. worked out for us! they won! took shots at touchdowns. then we moved the party to daddy's where max and j penry were djing. i brought cosmo out to his second bar experience (some may remember his first at heathers a few years back for pizza party). what can i say....he likes to be social.

my collage will beat your collage up

here's a new collage i made today. i'm into the idea of taking two images and having them coexist on the same page. image 1 = wall of tiger heads. image 2 = an oil spill. both gross. but together they make something pretty.

don't make em like they used to

today was arts and crafts day again. sarah kuhn (from me band) came over to cut up some more Life mags and make some cool art. can i have every saturday be like this? we made some pretty cool things. i feel i need to keep going with these. i might make one big one on this empty canvas i've got sitting here eyeing me slowly. that'll be a big undertaking.

anyways, for now here are some photos to show you what we did. love love love.

also found this beauty on my camera. i ran out of juice one night and all i got was this pic. pretty good tho.

and while we're on the topic of max wowch. i feel the need to share a little genius he threw my way the other day. how he finds these things i don't know but i ain't gonna complain. keep em coming max.

double monday post today. almost forgot to post my new viva playlist. today i bring you some tunes that go back to my dancefloor roots. felt like bringing the beat back. i've put quite a few Studio songs in my playlists over the years. always seem to come back to it. thought i'd throw in a few photos. FUCKING HELL THESE MEN ARE HOT. wish how i wish they would play here but i could easily see this not being a good show. however if they got it right, it would probably be the best thing i've ever seen.

Mickey & The Soul Generation - U.F.O.
The Grodeck Whipperjenny - Sitting Here on a Tongue

soft spot

my dear pal nick lorden got me a little xmas present which i just received. can't stop playing. feel i must share with everyone. SOFT LOCATION. if you are someone who loves the Sundays or The Sea and Cake but also love early My Bloody Valentine and say...The Feelies or Galaxie 500 (but with female vocals) you'll LOVE this album. it's hard trying to pinpoint what i think it sounds like but i'm attaching a video of theirs for you to see/listen. i recommend getting the vinyl and playing it over and over again.

unfortunately this band doesn't exist anymore. but here's their myspace and site anyways. you can buy vinyl here.

a karaoke vacation

took a trip to koreatown and transported myself to a beachside resort. it was great getting out of the cold for a minute. i also managed to lose my voice singing Sister Christian and Don't Stop Believin. totally worth it tho. jess darlin you made a great duet partner.
