i didn't want to admit that summer was over. it's still warm! we can still have fun!! but after this past weekend i think i have laid summer to rest and am welcoming fall to a new location in my heart.

let's go back to last wed when i received a text from Gordon Hull asking me if i wanted to join in his bday road trip to DC for 24 hours to visit museums for the day. hmmmm, lemme think, crap crap i have shit to do, but YESSSS! count me in.

so in the car we went. gordon, brian.....and me. three amigos. we got into DC late, passed out, and awoke ready for a day of art. we hit up the alan ginsberg exhibit, then edvard munch, then rothko, then lunch at the american indian museum (yumm), then yves klein (truly inspiring), and finally the air+space museum. don't think they've changed that exhibit since the 80s, no joke. whirlwind journey! but so worth it.

then.......we move on to the next stage of craziness. a trip upstate to jon santos' house where 50+ people have decided to camp out on his lawn and join in the fun at the rave barn down the road. that's right, a RAVE in a BARN. we danced for hours and took breaks by the bonfire. then passed out to the noise of wind through the trees. ahhhhhh. the following day we chilled hard core. i mean i did absolutely nothing for about 6 hours. it was great.

i love being a hippie at heart.

and here is where the weekend took yet ANOTHER unexpected turn. i thought i was going home that day....BUT NO. it was gordon's bday and he invited us to his folks home in warwick, just 30 min away. WE'RE IN! so a few of us ran off to the mystical world of the Hulls. we got ice cream and then went to the drive-in movie theatre and watched Machete under the stars. then came back to the homefront and went apple picking on their orchard at midnight while finding shooting stars.

woke up the next morning to the smell of blueberry pancakes being made by gordie's mom. delish let me tell ya. then we moved on to the park where we ate sandwiches, swung on the swings, and then played petanque. i sucked. wait....one more ice cream stop. then it's swim time! follow that up with more food and that's pretty much my day. oof!

oh yeah and then back in nyc i went to j penry's bbq late night style and was greeted with a bb gun where i shot at a modelo and then shotgunned it. i'm a great shot.

MAGAZINE PARTYYYYYYYYYY

so i've been keeping a bit of a secret....i have started a zine, errrrrrr.... magazine, well zine. it's something i've been working on a little bit here and there this year and HERE IT IS FINALLY!!! i am putting the finishing touches on it as we speak. printing it and binding it at home. there is something about handmade items that make things extra special. anyways, back to magazine party.

Magazine Party was started to bring magazines back to the art form. Similar to Glenn O'Brien's TV Party, Magazine Party aims to hold back from that technically slick feel that defines so many modern publications. Instead it encompasses a more DIY approach, which focuses on a more stripped down style; a style where art itself becomes the core of the design and content aesthetic. For this reason the zine has a limited run and is printed and bound by hand.

Magazine Party serves as a forum for friends and artists to contribute something that is a little left of center and gives them the ability to expand from their usual work. Some of these submissions include:

- barbarian drawings by Fergadelic
- comic based off Master of Reality song titles by Jess Rotter
- Vena Cava paper doll cut out wardrobe drawings
- Kenzo Minami pornographic mosaic collage
....and many more

ok that was the official professional sounding description of the mag. it's a zine for fun, it's a zine for art, it's a zine that gives you more than just what new band is coming out. it's also a little extension of I Heart. bringing friends and artists together.

i promise to keep you more updated on the official release of the zine. it will be available at a few stores worldwide (distribution still working itself out as we speak) and it will also be available through ME! only 100 copies will be made so get em while it's HOT!

so yeah i had a birthday last week. it was kinda nuts? i told you it would be. we came back from Wassaic music festival and played another show at Union Pool that day with Psychobuildings, Jailbait, Mike Bones, and a secret band.....!!! not only am i that excited but that's the band! !!! played! (chk chk chk to the rest of ya'll). i mean....how can you not be stoked for that. best bday ever. oh and a giant strawberry rolled by on the BQE? truly a special day.

oh yeah and my friends made tshirts cuz they rule harder than any other. tshirt, burger, and a shot....best present ever?

then we moved to the palace, the best kept secret in greenpoint. just happens to be a metal bar w/ pretty rad brothers running the bar who like to dole out free shots. not to mention the beer is $1.50. shit, i shouldn't even be telling you this. don't go there.

my camera recently broke so i wasn't able to upload all my favorite photos from my most recent european vacation. i started off in london with my best chick jaime from TEST then headed over to san sebastian to meet phil from StreetPeeper for some sun and pintxos.

then it was family time in paris, nice, florence, and venice with all 8 of us: mimi, tiger, kiki, tracy, bill, nephews grant + blake...and me. it was amazing and exhausting.

i took a long extended vacation this summer through europe and nantucket but now i'm back! lots to say but i'll start with this one. i made a few collages for my friend*slash*bandmate Susan who does Dirty Librarian Chains and she just put them up on her site!

Creative Consultant + Lead Singer of Open Ocean

Favorite mode of transport: I love driving and being able to really see where you are and take in the landscape, culture, and locals.

Meal you would travel for: Anything in Dubrovnik, Croatia. I am a sucker for Mediterranean food. When I was on a family cruise vacation through the Greek islands to Italy, we only had a few hours in Dubrovnik, but we signed up for a private boat tour of the islands. Our guide brought us to this restaurant for lunch at a place I would probably never be able to find again but it was the best food I've ever had in my life. I recall the stuffed squid as my favorite dish. Nothing has come close to how good this meal was... except for langoustines in Rome.

ok ok.....i realize i haven't been doing good recently with the blog postings. not even sure how many people check this on the reg. but it's summer! i lose track and am always trying to be outside instead of in front of a computer.

i missed the last viva playlist i did. so now you're getting two. both have some equally amazing artists to look into.

FIRST

I randomly found the first track (Rubies featuring Feist) on my iTunes shuffle not having any clue where it came from. And took the playlist from there. Threw in a few favorites such as Atlas Sound and Slowdive.

Smith Westerns is a band to look out for. When i first heard this track i thought it was T. Rex but it took a sweet turn and found it's own niche. I think this is the only song of theirs i have...might need to find some more.

The Black Ryder. Whoa. They are coming out on Mexican Summer this summer and I got a chance to listen to the album...so good!! Yes, it sounds like My Bloody Valentine, but it's good so fuck it. It's never a bad thing to sound like one of your favorite bands. I'm hoping to check these aussies out if they make it over this way.

Women. Every time a song comes on in my shuffle i have to check to see who it is and then it's like....oh of course, it's women. I really like this band.

Lots of goodies on this one. I recently tracked down the NME C86 mix and found a bevy of songs i had never heard. I'll probably stagger these out. First one to make a playlist is Celestial City by McCarthy. I find myself playing this in my head when i'm not listening to music. It's a fav of the moment. Definitely going to try and find more of their stuff.

I put a lot of old friends on this playlist including The Feelies, Jonathan Richman, Galaxie 500, Vaselines, etc. I was actually turned on to The Feelies by my pal Matt "viva radio" Werth a few years ago and they have been a crush since then.

No Joy is a new band, also on Mexican Summer (jesus they're kinda killing it lately no?). I went to see them last week and i was quite impressed. it's the project of two chicks but they played with a full band. and these girls come prepared to really give it their all. I'm gonna be on the lookout for more of their songs.

Lastly i put together a collection of strong drums and dancey guitar riffs. Gun Club, Bow Wow Wow, Adam and the Ants, Haircut 100, and Spandau Ballet (i forgot how much i love these guys for a minute).

it's about time for a food entry i think. a few things have inspired me lately and i feel the need to share.

1. for anyone who lives off the graham stop, have you had a sandwich from the Graham ave meat & deli? you know...the one near daddy's? a friend had recommended it to me and oddly it was the last spot in the area i had tried for a hoagie. and it was DA BOMB. not to mention dude (possibly willie? as i got the willie's special) is pretty killer himself. anyways....check out the photo then go get yourself a sammy.

2. CARNITAS. i decided to put together some sort of pulled pork tacos for the Lost finale last week and i put a few recipes together to create the ultimate carnitas recipe. it was so easy and FUCKING DELICIOUS. figured i might as well divulge my secrets so you too can enjoy.

- buy yourself a nice chunk of pork shoulder

- cut the pork into little 2 inch chunks and put in a bowl

- marinate the pork overnight in the juice of one orange, large slices of orange rind, a small onion cut 8 ways + a bay leaf, some thyme, salt and pepper

- next day, make yourself a rub in the food processor that consists of the ingredients from this recipe off bon appetit: carnitas. i didn't use the achiote and felt it was fine without it. i also took out the orange juice factor in this recipe cuz of the marination.

- add pork + rub to a cooking pan

- cook for 3.5 hours covered with foil in the oven at 300 degrees

- BOOYA! damn good carnitas tacos. i also made a tomatillo sauce and pickled onions to add in with fresh tortillas and crema. extra addition......PINEAPPLE.

there now go out and EAT SOME FOOD!!

anyways, onto the viva playlist for this week. i kinda put it together last minute so it's a little random for me.

My band, Open Ocean, just finished recording a new song. My good friends Lovefingers and Doug Lee produced it and it's pretty RAD. i'm so happy with it. you'll find that stuck in between a little Horace Andy and Galaxie 500. also duly noted is the Creepers version of Baby's On Fire. a sold cover in my opinion. close to the original.

ok next up we've got a song from Ariel Pink's new album Before Today. I swear every song on this album reminds me of a different band or song. Little Wig reminds me of Bowie. which is never a bad thing. i like the album a lot. you should check it out.

i first heard of Disappears when my friends drove to chicago to check them out. finally got their album and i'm pretty into it. they're playing Union Pool on June 19th and i'm stoked to check them out. Alongside them i smashed in some Sebadoh (always a personal favorite) and Descendants (fuck yeah!) Ahhhhh stoked for a good punk show.

Light Asylum has been getting a bunch of hype lately. I really love their live set. it's really powerful. Shannon....damn girl. you can sing. i've been blown away since !!! days. welcome back industrial. Tones on Tail and Silver Apples!! booya. can never go wrong. lastly a new track by my homies Holy Ghost!. so stoked to see these guys finally perform after all these years. they feel like my lil bros all grown up. first shows with LCD soundsystem? not so bad.

so we drove up to Phoenicia saturday in search of some good tchotchkes...and just to get out of town for a day. there was this mystery spot that we wanted to check out.

but first we got some pancakes from sweet sue's. and boy were they delicious! we tried the 'blue monkey'. it made a delicious dessert later as well.

then on to the thrifting. lots of good finds at this place. slightly over-priced but definitely worth checking out. plus they had petey the piranha and a cookie instead of veronica lake's ashes!!

but that wasn't all. we managed to continue to find utter weirdness everywhere we went. if you search real hard you can find shops that carry both these dandy collections. and a sweet poster as well.

a few of my friends come down to the desert with me every year as i'm lucky enough to have a family house right by the Coachella fields. This year i didn't even make it to the festival! and i was kind of ok with that.

our adventure started in LA when Carlos + Karyna came in early and i took them on a "see LA in one day" excursion. We went to the Getty, we drove by the beach, ate at Apple Pan, and did a star tours (i kid). but it was quite a nice day.

down in the desert we did only a few things. eat, swim, drink, sleep. i think that's about it. we attempted to go the Anthem party but left after 15 minutes. are we dicks? no i don't think so. it was just boiling over with douchiness. sorry language.

carlos was also obsessed with wearing all white the whole weekend. it's quite a good look i must say. karyna and aisa also attempted it but i did not. bad friend i am.

next up....ADVENTURE DAY AT THE INTEGRATRON!! this was kind of the highlight of the trip i gotta say. thank you jess rotter for tipping me off to this wonderful spot. i don't even know how to describe this place to you so i'm just going to have you read up on it on the INTEGRATRON site. if it was near me, i'd be going every week. can't wait for the sleepover next year. joanne you ruled!!

all i can say is....perfect sound in dome, quartz bowls tuned to your chakra, 30 min sound bath.

then we were told of the giant rock that's behind the integratron that you can get to off a dirt road. we said, yeah sure. even tho we had no idea where we were going. but we found it. apparently so did a pickup truck that said 'HILLBILLY' on the front that did donuts in the sand and then drove off. no joke. but seriously, this thing was amazing. it was ginormous.

and that's the end of our story. it was sad to say goodbye. fond memories as always. til next year. PEACE!

slow and steady

for now, i bring you my new playlist on VIVA. i slowed it down this week and put in a few new favs + a few old favs.

for the moment, sub pop seems to be killing it right now with some of my favorite bands. there are 3 bands of theirs on this mix. Dum Dum Girls, Beach House and Happy Birthday. I just got the Happy Birthday album a few weeks ago and i've been listening to it non-stop. i think i may need to press pause for a minute. but check it out, cuz it's pretty rad.

other newbies are Morning Benders and The Radio Dept. really into both these bands. got to see morning benders play a few months ago and they were really great. i'm interested to hear older radio dept. songs as they've been around for a bit, just new on my scene. sweden man! good shit coming from there.

Death in June....need to listen to more and you should too. some of their stuff i'm not into at all but some is really amazing. industrial and dreamy. the OMD track is pretty rad too. i keep going back to architecture+morality as being my favorite album of theirs. it's so good.

a few old favs include The Sundays, Bjork, The Smiths, and Beck. i used to listen to the sundays on cassette over and over and over again when i was younger. it was my all time favorite album. still is one of my favorites. beautiful and classic. takes me back to a happy place.

HAWKWIND. if you haven't heard of them and/or don't have any of their songs you are missing out. disco psyche funk metal. it's amazing. you'll also see i put my Luv Machine 'Everything' song in the mix. how could i not really.

my good friend kara (aka k-rafty) came over last night for some cooking + lost. she always brings something delicious to the table and she's one of those gals that doesn't need to look at a recipe to cook something. she just goes with it. i wish i could be like that!

so here was the menu:

- seared duck w/ a pear reduction sauce

- homemade ricotta over polenta cakes

- arugula salad w/ grapefruit + avocado

- lots of wine

everything was relatively easy to make which was why it was amazing we managed to fuck up the ricotta. we added the vinegar too late. but it's so easy i wanna try again! use whole pasteurized (not ultra) milk and warm it up on the stove. add 1 tbsp of white vinegar to each cup of milk you use. once it starts curdling transfer the curds to cheesecloth and let it drain. add salt and you're done!

and while we waited for the "others" to come over to watch Lost i put kara to work as her crafty self and she made a few collages. i think i might make everyone who comes over make a collage!

oh and Lost was finally good this week. THANK GOD.

i don't know how goth/industrial/minimal wave music somehow became super dancey but it did, and i'm grateful. post-punk depression turned dark dance beats. i mean, i see where they're going but i find it ironic. although dancing always makes me feel better.

this week on VIVA i focus on a few smaller unknown bands that i came across recently plus a few wider known ones. known....Human League + Front 242 + The Cure + Medium Medium. 'Being Boiled' doesn't sound like most other human league songs but it's a solid beginning. F242 'Ethics' is so good. minimal and synthy and great. 'Hungry So Angry', a classic.

speaking of minimal and synths....let's move on to Turquoise Days. really into this song. also found a lovely live rendition of 'Blurred' from 2009! check this out, playing in a park 20 years later with kids: YOUTUBE (i couldn't embed it so just click it).

D.A.F., Xeno and Oaklander, Schaatz....all sweet. you can check xeno+oaklander playing in new york. one of the better coldwave bands that have been arising lately. seems to be a strong comeback with Wierd at Home Sweet Home on wednesdays.

for good measure i threw in some newer tracks such as Portishead, Hot Chip, and Memoryhouse even tho i swayed a bit from the theme. oh wells.

i was wondering where all the fashion went. it was in paris all along. of course! paris somehow never disappoints. glam glam and more glam. the 60s have definitely been alive in fashion this year in multiple collections and i'm very happy about it.

ok first up, an ode to ALEXANDER MCQUEEN. i made two separate layouts, one fancy and one just plain bad ass. it was really a beautiful collection. plus the shoes! insane. baroque glamour to its finest.

now back to the regular recap. LOOOOOOOOOOVED DRIES VAN NOTEN. so classic and casual and just amazing. YSL and ANN DEMEULEMEESTER were black-tastic this season...as per usual. they always do it right. and the older i get the more i find myself leaning towards wearing more black.

although i can't get away from color. i love color. which is why i always love the SONIA RYKIEL and TSUMORI CHISATO shows. sonia, how do you do it every season with a different hair bobble. love it. tsumori....seriously, you rule. no one does it like you do.

CHANEL....seriously what is up with those fur boots? my cat looks like that when i cut his hair off in the winter. not into it. but the clothes are pretty. always classic. just stay away from the sasquatch look. PLEASE. LOUIS VUITTON...i had a hard time picking some looks i liked. i really love the ones below but i wasn't digging the insanely oversized look. WEIRD. most people are trying NOT to look 6 times larger than they really are.

DIOR....soft, pretty, delectable. BALMAIN...long bold suits, love it. suede pants!!! i want. BALENCIAGA....looked more like spring 2011. very bright. not my favorite balenciaga collection but i'll roll with it. and the shoes were good.

i don't know what's going on in fashion right now but why are all the collections disappointing!????? so many shows from Milan that i didn't like. marni?? wow. so not good. the collections are either too boring or they're completely over the top. i don't know what happened.

luckily there were a few that i adored so let's just stick with those. FENDI...amazing. i want those suede pants damnit. plus the shapes and those fur stoles.....i want all of it.

my other hot favorite is PRADA. the more i look at it the more i'm in love with this collection. the double collar???? shit man, sign me up. i'm kind of in love with the 60s, not sure if you knew that, and this collection just got me all excited. high bun, oddly shaped glasses, patent leather double collar jacket??? NEED NEED NEED.

Missoni was also very nice as always. i love their sweaters and colors. they just look so comfy, i want to wrap myself in all of it. Dolce....lace, polks dots, animal print...of course. Bottega had some nice looks in there as well. clean lines, good colors.

London didn't really pull through for me this season on the shows. there were a lot that i'm not even showing b/c i couldn't pick 3 looks i liked enough. what happened to london??? they used to be one of my favorites. always having fun with fashion. i gotta say i was not that impressed. however there are a few highlights.

two favorites: HOLLY FULTON and LOUISE GRAY. both had a lot of color and are very playful. somewhat rave style but i like it. not that neu rave bullshit that was out a few years ago (and how house of holland still is) but something that brings it closer to real fashion. i'm into brands that draw on inspiration but aren't trying to be trendy.

BURBERRY is always nice. the jackets are my favorite. more fur on that end. lots of fur this season. i'm personally very into SHERPA. more things should have sherpa in it. RICHARD NICOLL also looked great this season. not only is there velvet but that blue color is pretty killer.

i like the shapes and color palette in VIVIENNE WESTWOOD. and ELEY KISHIMOTO always wins in the prints/60s category. CHRISTOPHER KANE barely made it on here. little too much leather lace and floral. oh i forgot to mention MATTHEW WILLIAMSON. nice but not fantastic.

every once in a while i like to throw in some metal/hardcore/punk in my playlists and here's one of them. i go crazy if i listen to the same type of music all the time. don't you?

starting off with a little rock psychedlia Top Drawer brings it with Song of a Sinner. followed by a little Swervedriver which i haven't listened to in a while and almost forgot how much i loved this track. ahhhhhh nostalgia. then we got some Pelican Dead Between the Walls which is a solid metal track if i do say so.

later we get into some awesome late 70s bands such as Wipers, Swell Maps, and Zounds. definitely worth checking into more of their songs. RVNG had an awesome 10" that came out a little while back featuring Twitch's edits of Zounds - War + a few others including Flux of Pink Indians which i also love.

Adam and the Ants! first love according to my mother. i loooooooved adam ant. who can argue with mom? he was hot. listen, just go on viva radio and check out the playlist. you won't be disappointed.

did everyone survive new york fashion week?? i know i did. you know how i did? i didn't go to one thing. maybe i'm just jaded and old at this point, but the shows don't really excite me anymore. plus this weather was a DRAG. best to look at the shows like any good lazy person. ONLINE. so here is my recap of NYFW-FALL 2010...

Lot of amazing collections plus a few bombers. i gotta say i wasn't into Alexander Wang...AT ALL. i wasn't into most of the collection last season but there were a few pieces i dug. this season, i don't know what he was thinking. i also wasn't into United Bamboo and i've always been a follower/lover. just found it a bit boring this season. any collections i'm not posting here i either a. didn't like or b. it wasn't on style.com. (where all these lovely photos are from)

ok now onto what i DID like....i'm already noting what i want to find in thrift stores. i need to work on another x-country road trip. loved loved loved all the *velvet* i saw, like in Erin Fetherston. also was into the layering/knits from Rodarte + Thakoon. the 20s took over for Karen Walker, Vena Cava, Peter Jensen + Rachel Comey and i love it! glamour, small hats, boy cut pants, more more more please. exotic prints were also big with Alexandre Herchovitch, Proenza Schouler, and Suno. lastly, didn't love Derek Lam's clothes but damn the shoes! so good! (and i won't even mention all the FUR)

my obsession with vintage magazines continues and now i have been turned onto VIVA MAGAZINE. i was researching for an upcoming photoshoot for my new zine (details to be revealed) and my friend gave me a pile of these mags to look at. they are amazing!!!

who knew there was a mag in the 70s that had RAD photos of nudes + fashion spreads with great photographers that were classy and beautiful. truly truly inspired. too many mags go for the shock value of tits+ass and never just keep it classy. what happened to art?

miss saibella came over and we made bread! holla! (no really, challah). first time making bread and it was so easy! and quite delicious i have to say. had some with scrambled eggs this morning, soon i will try some french toast. yummmm.

part 2

miss monica hosted chinese new year dinner at her pad and she made enough food to feed a small army. it was quite good tho. she also made us listen to her chinese new year ipod mix TWICE. year of the tiger! after dinner we burned fake money on the street w/ the gong. happy new year everyone!!!

i swear to god, i can't tell what's new and what's old anymore. everything new sounds old. and not that there's anything wrong with that. i'm down with the past. shit was solid. lot of things suck now.

this week on viva i put a few little ditties on the list from some newbies. first up and most into is The Mantles. i don't know where this came from on my itunes but it popped up one day and i really like it. thought it was old. then to my dismay it's new. sf is up on this sound lately. anyways check it out

another good one is Double Dagger from baltimore. they sound like no age. but they've been around since 2002. chicken and egg question here. but this lie/truth song is pretty sweet. it's off their new LP.

last but not least we have The Drums. cute lil boys. this pic looks straight Outsiders. back to the "old" part of this post. it's a fun song tho, i'm into it.

as much as i'm into this going back to your roots music (and my own band does the same so i can't judge) but i wonder where that line is where yes it sounds good but it's not original. there's a difference between straight up copying and having bands inspire your own sound. we'll see how long this trend lasts. not hating, just questioning. as long as they do it right i don't mind!

lots to do this past weekend. show, drink, show, drink, superbowl, eat, drink. first up....muslims show at cakeshop. seeing as i just can't say soft pack, i'm going to keep calling them the muslims. sorry guys. show was crazy packed (duhhhh) but as usual totally awesome.

then on saturday i went to the Terrible Records showcase at glasslands. missed a few bands but got there in time to see Morning Benders (which were really really great) and finally Class Actress. Been wantin to see my pal Elizabeth up on stage so that was good. she put on a show like i knew she would. only elizabeth would hold her huge purse on stage while doing soundcheck.

finally ended the weekend with superbowl viewing at my house. was rootin for the saints only cuz i had 3 alabama natives in the house and that's what they told me to do. worked out for us! they won! took shots at touchdowns. then we moved the party to daddy's where max and j penry were djing. i brought cosmo out to his second bar experience (some may remember his first at heathers a few years back for pizza party). what can i say....he likes to be social.

ever since my trip to the MOMA i've had a sudden urge to find images and cut them up and make collages. but now i can't stop searching for vintage magazines on ebay!!!!! i'm a little obsessed. here are just a few that i've found. all on their way to me right now. (minus the ASIA mags cuz someone kept outbidding me. i'm still scorned and determined to find more). unicorn times??? seriously?? not only am i intrigued to know what's inside this zine but the title alone clenched it.

this year i stayed in nyc for nye and i didn't want to have a night of wandering around trying to find something fun and wondering why i'm not really finding it. so a few friends got together and decided to throw a bash filled with no frills and good times. IT WORKED!

MYSTERY DINNER PARTY WITH THE BRADSHAWS

we brought down the Teen Mystery game 'Panic at the Prom' to play while having dinner one night and seeing as everyone had a special character description, we decided it would be fun to go to the local coachella valley thrift store and find some costumes for everyone. I OF COURSE LOVE THIS IDEA. we found some pretty sweet duds but some didn't make it home (like the turquoise chiffon/sequin number we were going to make my mom wear). a few extra things found their way into my bag. such as some ferragamo pumps, a crazy sweater w/ black+pink mohair, and a leopard print bomber (see below). but we found a little something for everyone. this included my dad playing Aidan, the goth, which required him to wear black eyeliner. what a trooper.

so prior to xmas, as my mom was picking out the more "appropriate" mystery dinner party game, she figured the TEEN SABOTEUR version would be better than the MURDER version for my 10 and 8 year old nephews. how wrong could we be. turns out my mom, the principal of the high school, had a love child back in high school (which just so happens to be Aidan) and she pulled the fire alarm because she wanted to ruin everyone's fun cuz she didn't get a prom of her own. great writing. my character, Nina Bendixen, was the prom queen that everyone was jealous of that secretly went to camp slim-n-trim back in the day. (we picked these names prior to knowing what the characters were fyi). there was also the token nerd, jealous girl, misunderstood chick+dude, and prom king/football jock.

anyways, we all had a lot of fun with it and i think it will be a new Bradshaw family tradition!! here are some photos:
